Taizhou Vocational College of Science & Technology (“TZVCST”) is a full-time higher vocational college sponsored by Taizhou Municipal Government and approved by Zhejiang Provincial Government. It has a long history and developed from Taizhou Agriculture School established in 1937 and Huangyan Normal School in 1921. The two schools were merged in June 2003, and officially named Taizhou Vocational College of Science & Technology in February 2007. In 2011, the college passed the talent cultivation assessment by the Ministry of Education. It has received such honors as Zhejiang Provincial Civilized Unit, Zhejiang Provincial Safe Campus, Zhejiang Provincial Security Model Unit, Zhejiang Provincial Greenery Model Unit, Zhejiang Provincial Ecological Culture Base, Zhejiang Provincial Advanced Grass-root Party Organization of Higher Education, etc.. The college has won the first prize of Zhejiang Provincial Scientific and Technological Award, the first prize of Taizhou Municipal Scientific and Technological Progress Award and the first prize of Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement Award for several times.
Located in Taizhou, a city on the mountain overlooking the sea, a holy land of Hehe (harmony and cooperation), and the capital of manufacturing, TZVCST faces Yongning River on three sides, boasting an excellent ecological environment and convenient access to transport. The campus covers an area of 524.9 mu (or 350,000m2) with floor space of 210,800 m2 and a land area of 760.9 mu (or 507,332 m2) planned for use. It owns about RMB100mn’s worth of instruments and equipment for teaching and scientific research activities, and over 590,000 paper books, over 1,260,000 electronic books, and 1,104 newspapers and periodicals. There are seven schools, i.e. Agriculture and Bioengineering School, Electromechanics and Die & Mold Engineering School, Automobile and Information Engineering School, Economics and Trade Management School, Accounting and Finance School, Humanities and Tourism School and Social Science & P.E. School. Also, a new school, Taizhou Beihang Changying Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) School, is under construction. There are 25 specialties, including Horticulture, Die & Mold Design and Manufacturing, Food Nutrition and Testing, Landscape Engineering Technology, Secretarial, Automobile Testing & Maintenance, Marketing, Accounting, Hotel Management, Pre-school Education, Aerial Vehicle Manufacturing Technology, etc., with one provincial-level advantageous specialty and four provincial featured specialties. There are about 7,400 full-time students in this college.
TZVCST is dedicated to the “Better Talents, Better College” Project by building a high-quality bi-professional teachers team. The overall number of faculty is 351, including 85 teaching and research staff with associate professors and above, 261 with postgraduate degrees, 176 bi-professional teachers, two experts with the State Council Special Allowance, one young academic leader of higher education at the provincial level, eight specialty leaders at the provincial level, and one Class B innovation talent of Taizhou 500 Elites.
TZVCST sticks to the college positioning of “Occupational Education, Localization and Higher Education” by continuously deepening industry-education integration and college-enterprise cooperation, building win-win collaborative talent-cultivating platforms, co-building 16 production bases on campus, including the Green Wing Environmental Protection Testing Co., Ltd., Die & Mold Production Base for Smart Toilet Seats, Zhengbao Accounting Cloud Sharing Center, etc., 98 training bases on campus, 160 practical training bases off campus, and 232 cooperative units.
TZVCST, upholding the motto of “Improve Virtue, Enhance Skill”, focuses on cultivating highly-qualified “foreman” talents, with double-certificate policy (academic certificate and vocational certificate). The teaching contents are updated to professional standards. Students of TZVCST have achieved good results in skills competition, 146 awards in 2018 (including two national-level second prizes, 23 first prizes and 40 second prizes at provincial level). TZVCST is ranked No.326 among 1,418 higher vocational colleges in China. In recent three years, the initial employment rate of graduates exceeds 96%. All the specialties are employment-oriented and the graduates are highly recognized in the market.
TZVCST emphasizes both teaching and training. It offers diploma education and vocational training to students and adults. There is a National Occupation Skill Appraisal Centre, providing services for 17 occupations, a training center for informationalized manufacturing industry, a training base for advanced die & mold talents, a national-level vocational training base for the disabled, a training Base for modern agricultural technology, Taizhou Seaman Training Base, etc. It has established collaborations with several universities on distance learning and self-taught higher education examinations, including Shandong University, Sichuan Agricultural University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Normal University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Zhejiang A&F University, Ningbo University of Technology.
